Pistons go for season sweep against Cleveland
Apr 10, 2013 - 2:06 PM (Sports Network) - Gas prices averaged about $1.36 the last time the Detroit Pistons swept a season series from the Cleveland Cavaliers. That was 2002.
The Pistons have won the first three meetings with Cleveland and aim to make it a fourth when the Central foes collide Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena.
Detroit took all four meetings with the Cavaliers back in the 2002-03 campaign and is riding a five-game winning streak in this series. The two rivals have split the last 14 encounters in the Forest City.
The Pistons are coming off a 99-85 win versus the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, when Brandon Knight and Rodney Stuckey scored 20 and 14 points, respectively, for Detroit, which won for only the third time in 18 tries and snapped an 18- game drought against the Bulls.
"It felt good," Knight said after the Pistons ended an eight-game slide at home. "We were the team to not make mistakes and capitalized on their mistakes."
Knight is averaging 22.5 ppg in his last two games and Stuckey is posting averages of 19.8 points over his past five contests.
The Pistons are 10-29 on the road and winless in back-to-back games as the visitor. They are not expected to have guard Jose Calderon Wednesday because of a triceps injury and he did not play versus Chicago.
Cleveland will play consecutive games at home versus Detroit and New York, and had a modest two-game winning come to an end with Tuesday's 99-94 loss at Indiana.
Kyrie Irving scored 29 points, Tyler Zeller netted 18 and both Tristan Thompson and Shaun Livingston scored 10 points for the Cavs, losers in 11 of their last 13 games. The Cavs had a 31-16 advantage in the third quarter, but Indiana responded with a 35-10 difference in the fourth quarter.
"We took our foot off the gas," Irving said.
The Cavaliers will try to improve their 14-24 home mark Wednesday.
