T'Wolves take unbeaten record to New York

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Minnesota Timberwolves hope to stay unbeaten when they visit Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

The Timberwolves have won their first two games of the season, defeating the Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder, and will play two straight and four of the next six games on the road. In Friday's 100-81 victory over the Thunder, Kevin Love had 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Thunder star Kevin Durant was limited to 13 points, one game after pumping in 42 in a season-opening win over the Utah Jazz.

The Timberwolves beat the Thunder for only the third time in their last 17 meetings. They led by as many as 34 and improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2006.

"We're just trying to establish something," Minnesota head coach Rick Adelman said. "We got the first two at home, now we just have to build off it when we go on the road."

Nikola Pekovic had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Ricky Rubio scored 14 with 10 assists.

Sunday's game in the Big Apple will be the first road game of the season for Minnesota.

New York has split its first two games of the season and is hoping to rebound from a tough 82-81 loss to the Chicago Bulls. In Thursday's setback, Bulls star Derrick Rose hit the game-winning shot with 5.7 seconds to go and Anthony missed a contested 3-pointer at the other end as time ran out.

Anthony had 22 points on just 8-of-24 shooting.

Raymond Felton had 13 points and Tyson Chandler ended with seven and 19 rebounds for the Knicks, who fell to 3-21 in their last 24 trips to the United Center and were coming off a season-opening win versus Milwaukee.

"I just have to do a better job of getting us over the hump down the stretch," New York coach Mike Woodson said. "I'm proud of the way we competed. Guys stepped up and played tonight."

Andrea Bargnani posted nine points in defeat.

The Knicks won both meetings with Minnesota last season and have prevailed in each of the last four games in this series. The T'Wolves have dropped three in a row at MSG.
