The Celtics are still searching for their first win under new head coach Brad Stevens, whose squad is coming off a 105-98 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday. The Bucks rallied from 22 points down, while Boston's Brandon Bass led six players in double figures with 17 points.
Gerald Wallace added 14 points and both Jeff Green and Courtney Lee scored 13 points in defeat.
"I thought they were really having their way with us physically on the offensive and defensive end in the last 16-18 minutes," Stevens said. "Now the last five or six minutes, that's when we started getting tight, I thought, and instead of just playing free and playing with a clear mind, they were mixing up defenses and they did a good job of that."
Injured Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo dressed in a beard costume to honor the World Series champion Boston Red Sox, and addressed the crowd prior to the contest. The World Series trophy was also brought to center court.
Earlier Friday, Boston unveiled a statue of former Celtics star Bill Russell at City Hall Plaza.
The Pistons hope to get back on track and suffered a 111-108 overtime loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.
Josh Smith led the Pistons with 19 points and three blocks, while Rodney Stuckey also contributed with 19 points off the bench. Andre Drummond had a game-high 16 rebounds. Detroit won its season opener versus Washington.
"I think we need to stay calm, everything was a little frantic. We took some tough shots but we played really good tonight. We showed a lot of fight, and we played hard. We know what we need to do for the next time we play them," said Pistons' guard Chauncey Billups.
Detroit took two of three from Boston last season and is unbeaten in the past four meetings at home in this series.
