Chandler went down with a small non-displaced fracture of his right fibula in Tuesday's 102-97 loss to the Bobcats at Madison Square Garden and is expected to miss four-to-six weeks of action. Chandler had two points and two rebounds in less than seven minutes (6:35).
"Tyson's big for us. He's our shot-blocker, he's our man in the middle," said Knicks guard Iman Shumpert. "But we have guys that step right in. ... We gotta be able to adjust."
Carmelo Anthony scored 32 points on 10-of-28 shooting and Metta World Peace netted 18 off the bench for the Knicks, losers in three straight since a season-opening win versus Milwaukee. Ray Felton and Shumpert scored 14 points apiece in defeat.
Anthony, who led the NBA with 28.7 ppg last season, had his first 30-point game of the campaign and has led the team in scoring in all four games this season.
Charlotte is aiming for its first three-game winning streak since closing out the 2012-13 campaign with three consecutive victories.
The Bobcats have won three of four games and opened a three-game homestand with Wednesday's 92-90 victory over the Toronto Raptors thanks to Gerald Henderson's game-high 23 points. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist scored 14 points and both Josh McRoberts and Jeff Taylor had 13 points.
"It felt great out there. I tried to come out early and be aggressive and some shots fell," Henderson told NBA.com. "My teammates set some really good screens to get me open. It was a good start for us."
Kemba Walker was held to five points on 2-of-13 shooting for Charlotte, which led 30-14 after 12 minutes, made 49.3 percent of its shots and scored 18 points on 13 Toronto turnovers. The Bobcats have improved to 5-0 in their last five home games and have won a franchise-best, six straight at home against the Raptors.
The Bobcats will close out the homestand Monday versus Atlanta and have won two in a row against the Knicks.
Charlotte head coach Steve Clifford was hospitalized overnight on Thursday after not feeling well. His status for Friday is unknown.
New York has dropped 10 of the 17 meetings on the road in this series.
