Warriors wind down road trip in Memphis

Nov 9, 2013 - 4:11 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors will polish off a tough four- game road trip Saturday night when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum.

The Warriors took the first two games of the sojourn in Philadelphia and Minnesota. Against the Wolves, Steph Curry injured his ankle and he didn't play on Friday in San Antonio.

Against the Spurs, defense was the word and the Warriors dropped a heartbreaker, 76-74. They've now lost 30 consecutive regular-season games in San Antonio, a streak that dates back to Valentine's Day of 1997.

"I thought our guys did a very good job of battling without our best player," said Warriors coach Mark Jackson. "It was a grind out there, tough to score on both sides. I'm very proud of my guys' energy and effort. Lost to a very good team."

Harrison Barnes started in place of Curry, but Toney Douglas did most of the point guard work. He finished with 21 points, while David Lee had a double- double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Klay Thompson managed 11 points on 5-for-16 shooting and Andrew Bogut pulled down 13 boards. Andre Iguodala scored nine points and his leaner at the end rimmed out and the Warriors fell.

The Grizzlies have been idle since a home loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. It was Memphis' first home setback of the season and they lost 99-84.

"I can say we are a little frustrated," said Mike Conley. "If we lost tonight giving the effort that we normally give and laid it all out there, we would have been fine with that."

All-Star forward Zach Randolph played eight minutes and left the game as his fiancee went into labor, but the rest of the Grizzlies, outside of Conley, who had 26 against New Orleans, stunk.

Marc Gasol managed 11 points and no other player scored in double figures. The Grizz shot a respectable 48 percent from the field, but committed 18 turnovers, which New Orleans turned into 22 points.

Memphis was near the top of the league in almost every defensive category conceived last season. This season, the Grizzlies are 20th in opponents' scoring and 25th in opponents' field-goal percentage.

The Grizzlies have won nine in a row against the Warriors and Memphis has won eight straight at home in this series.
