Mavs visit depleted Bucks

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Mavericks will try to get one win on their current road trip when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks Saturday night at the Bradley Center.

The Mavericks lost by 14 to the Oklahoma City Thunder Wednesday night, then Dallas suffered a 116-108 setback Friday night in Minnesota to the Timberwolves.

Against the Wolves, Dallas shot 48.9 percent from the field, but gave up 100- plus points for the sixth time in six games.

"We've got to play a little bit harder and we've got to compete a little bit harder," said Dirk Nowitzki, who, after 14 points against Minnesota, needs 31 points to pass Jerry West for 16th on the NBA's all-time scoring list. "We've got to compete a little harder on the glass and we've got to be on the same page defensively."

Monta Ellis had 23 points to lead the Mavs, followed by 21 from Jose Calderon. Nowitzki had 14 and Shawn Marion and Jae Crowder both netted 10 points apiece.

Vince Carter was suspended for the Timberwolves game after throwing an elbow and connecting with Steven Adams of the Thunder.

The Bucks got back into the win column on Wednesday with a 109-104 victory at home over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Things haven't been too great for the Bucks, despite a decent record.

Larry Sanders, who emerged as a real defensive force last season, hasn't been happy with his playing time under new head coach Larry Drew. He compounded his problems by injuring his hand in an alleged bar fight last weekend.

"I put myself in a bad situation over the weekend, didn't make the best decisions," Sanders said. "I offer my apologies to everyone. I'm going to be better."

Sanders won't be charged for the incident. He is listed as questionable.

The injury bug has bitten the Bucks hard. Against the Cavs, Sanders, Ersan Ilyasova, Brandon Knight and Luke Ridnour all sat and their availability for Saturday is unknown.

Despite the physical ailments, the Bucks bested Cleveland thanks to balanced scoring. Five of the eight Bucks who played on Wednesday scored in double figures, led by 28 from O.J. Mayo and 23 from Gary Neal.

Milwaukee shot a blistering 56.5 percent from long range against the Cavaliers.

The teams split last season's two meetings with each winning on the other's court. Dallas is 5-18 in its last 23 in Milwaukee.
