Blazers aim for seventh straight win, visit Brooklyn

Nov 18, 2013 - 3:27 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Trail Blazers will try for a seventh straight victory on Monday night when their road trip takes them to the Barclays Center to face the Brooklyn Nets.

The Blazers haven't won seven in a row since a 13-game streak back in December of 2007. The 8-2 record is Portland's best since a 9-1 start to the 1999-2000 campaign.

Win No. 6 in a row came in overtime in Toronto on Sunday afternoon. The Blazers squandered a 17-point lead, but prevailed in the extra session to get the 118-110 victory.

"This wasn't the first time we have done it," said Nicolas Batum. "Like four or five times in a row we had a good lead and had to close out the game and the other team came back. It paid off right now because we won the game in overtime but we have to close the game when you are up 15, 18 with seven minutes to go, we have to close the game."

The Blazers converted a season-best 15 3-pointers and shot almost 47 percent from beyond the arc.

LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard each scored 25 points for Portland. Aldridge pulled down 11 rebounds. Batum finished with 24 points and Wesley Matthews added 17. Mo Williams chipped in 13 points off the bench.

The Blazers visit Milwaukee on Wednesday to end their trip east.

The Nets just returned from a trip west and the journey wasn't a successful one. Brooklyn went 1-2 and barely came home with its starting five intact.

Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce all missed the finale of the road trip, a 110-103 loss Saturday night to the Los Angeles Clippers.

It was supposed to mark a reunion of Garnett, Pierce and Clippers coach Doc Rivers, who were all together for championship glory with the Boston Celtics before the team essentially decided to rebuild this season.

Those who suited up for the Nets played admirably, led by 19 points from Andray Blatche, who started in place of Lopez, and rookie Miles Plumlee. Alan Anderson scored 15 points, while Joe Johnson, the only normal starter who played, and Tyshawn Taylor each scored 13 points.

"We came to play. Those guys that suited up gave me everything they had," Nets coach Jason Kidd said. "The ball just didn't bounce our way tonight."

All Brooklyn players are expected to be available on Monday night.

The Nets swept both matchups last season and the two teams have split the last eight east-coast meetings between the two.
