Reeling Wiz welcome Wolves to Washington

Nov 19, 2013 - 3:58 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves will make a stop in the nation's capital Tuesday for a showdown with the Washington Wizards at Verizon Center.

The Timberwolves have alternated wins and losses in their last five games and came out on the winning side of a 106-88 decision versus the Boston Celtics at home on Saturday. Love, the NBA's third-leading scorer at 26.8 points per game, had 23 and 12 rebounds, while Nikola Pekovic added 20 points and 12 boards. Kevin Martin scored 20 points as well in the win.

Minnesota scored 28 points off 22 Boston turnovers and rebounded from a loss at Denver the night before.

"We were just better tonight then we were last night. They pushed themselves through the fatigue and did enough to get a good win," Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said.

The Wolves had a 77-59 lead at one point and had a 19-point advantage in the fourth quarter. They are now 7-2 when scoring 100-plus points this season and 7-0 when leading after three quarters.

Minnesota is third in scoring at 108.5 ppg and 2-3 on the road (5-1 at home).

Washington is only 2-7 on the season and has lost four in a row, including Saturday's 103-96 overtime loss versus Cleveland.

Bradley Beal and Nene scored 28 and 24 points, respectively, and Martell Webster added 14 points in defeat. Marcin Gortat finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds and has five double-doubles in his last seven games, averaging 13.3 points and 10.4 rebound sin that time.

John Wall was held to nine points, but had 12 assists. The Wizards shot just 39.8 percent and couldn't contain Cavs guard Kyrie Irving, who netted 41 points on 14-of-28 shooting.

"He makes tough shots, and he got into a rhythm early. Once a guy who is a good shooter gets into a rhythm it is very had to stop him," Wall said of Irving.

Wizards forward Al Harrington (knee) is questionable versus Minnesota.

The Wizards will try to end their slide Tuesday in the first of two meetings with Minnesota this season. Washington will visit the Timberwolves on Dec. 27 and has won eight of the last nine matchups in D.C.

Wall averaged 16.5 points and 6.0 assists in two games versus Minnesota last season.
