Suns set for showdown in Sacramento
Nov 19, 2013 - 3:33 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Phoenix Suns will try to halt a two-game losing streak Tuesday night when they start a home-and-home series with the Sacramento Kings at Sleep Train Arena.
The two teams meet in Phoenix on Wednesday.
The Suns lost a pair of heartbreakers in the last week - first a 90-89 setback in Portland on Wednesday, then a home overtime loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Friday.
The Suns' four losses have come by a combined 13 points and the combined record of those four teams is 28-13.
Against the Nets, Joe Johnson hit a layup as time expired in overtime to give Brooklyn a 100-98 win at US Airways Center.
"It happens. We have another game next week. We have look past this game, it's over with and we can't do anything about it and it is what it is," said guard Eric Bledsoe.
Goran Dragic, back in the starting lineup after dealing with some nagging injuries, led the way for Phoenix with 19 points and 10 assists. P.J. Tucker added 17, followed by 15 from Bledsoe and 13 apiece from Channing Frye and Marcus Morris.
The Kings have dropped two straight since a home win over those same Nets Wednesday. Both of Sacramento's setbacks came at home, and after the game on Tuesday, the Kings hit the road for three straight.
The Kings' most recent setback came at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night. The Grizz held the Kings to 38 percent shooting in a 97-86 victory.
Sacramento's five starters combined for 29 points, but four Kings - John Salmons, Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Thornton and Travis Outlaw - scored in double figures off the bench. Salmons was replaced in the starting lineup by Luc Mbah a Moute.
The Kings cut a 20-point deficit to three in the fourth quarter, but couldn't sustain the momentum. Despite the comeback, the Kings coach was not happy about what he saw.
"We can't give forth the effort we were tonight if we want to compete against a team like that," Kings head coach Michael Malone said.
The Kings visit the Suns on Wednesday, then stay in Los Angeles for the weekend with tilts against the Clippers and Lakers.
The Kings took the final two games of the series with the Suns last season, but Phoenix is 8-4 in its last 12 in California's capital.
