Hawks, Pistons commence home-and-home set
Nov 20, 2013 - 3:40 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons begin a home-and- home series Wednesday night with the action culminating from Philips Arena. The two teams meet Friday night in The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Hawks put up a valiant fight, but ultimately came up short Tuesday night against the two-time defending champion Miami Heat. Miami pulled away in the second half for a 104-88 home victory, which halted a two-game Atlanta winning streak.
"I give Miami and their defense a lot of credit. Their activity can make it difficult on you offensively," Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer said.
Mike Scott led the way for the Hawks on Tuesday with 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Al Horford and Pero Antic both had 12 points, which was one off Horford's season-low, and Antic's career-high.
Kyle Korver went 3-for-5 from the 3-point line and extended his streak of consecutive games with a made 3-pointer to 84. The all-time NBA mark of 89 belongs to Dana Barros.
The Pistons dominated the New York Knicks in the third quarter Tuesday night. Detroit topped the Knicks, 28-20, in that 12-minute period and won the home game, 92-86.
Rodney Stuckey led the way for the Pistons with 21 points off the bench on 8- for-14 shooting.
"When he plays at the level that he's capable of playing, he's a great player," forward Josh Smith said of Stuckey. "We all depended on him to play big for us and he's been doing that."
Smith was next for the Pistons with 19 points. Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond both had double-doubles as Monroe scored 16 and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Drummond had 13 points, 11 boards and three blocks.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope also posted 13 points.
The Pistons shot 50 percent from the field and held the Knicks to 43.4 percent.
Detroit has now won two of its last three games.
The Hawks took two of three from the Pistons last season and are 10-4 in their last 14 against Detroit. The Pistons have dropped nine in a row and 11 of their last 13 in Atlanta.
