Irving, Cavaliers welcome Wizards to the Q
Nov 20, 2013 - 3:45 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Cavaliers will go for two consecutive wins, both over the Washington Wizards, when the two teams meet at Quicken Loans Arena Wednesday. The Cavs snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday night with a 103-96 overtime victory in Washington.
Kyrie Irving was amazing on Saturday with 41 points on 14-for-28 shooting, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. He handed out five assists, but committed six turnovers.
"I couldn't have done it without my teammates," said Irving. "They were just setting me up, putting me in positions to be aggressive and knock down shots. They were looking for me."
Tristan Thompson notched his seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Earl Clark and Jarrett Jack both scored in double digits.
Dion Waiters is expected to return to action on Wednesday after sitting a few games due to illness, although he may have lost his job in the starting lineup. Head coach Mike Brown indicated such even before Waiters missed time and all of this goes amidst reports he and Irving got into an altercation in the locker room. Waiters denies the accusation.
The Wizards rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to earn a 104-100 home victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
"It's just belief and faith, that's all I kept telling them in the huddle," said head coach Randy Wittman. "You got to believe you are going to make the play, if you got a shot; you're going to make it. If you get free throws, you are going to make them. We are going to get a defensive stop. You got to believe that. If you believe that, then a lot of good things are going to happen."
John Wall scored 14 points and matched a career-high with 16 assists. His backcourt mate, Bradley Beal, led the Wizards with 25 points. Nene managed 20 points while Martell Webster and Marcin Gortat also scored in double figures to round out the starting five.
Tuesday's victory for Washington halted a four-game losing streak. That also took the Wizards to .500 for the season at home.
The Cavs have won four in a row against the Wizards, including Saturday's victory. Cleveland is 10-2 in its last 12 at home against Washington.
