Heat carry momentum into Orlando
Nov 20, 2013 - 3:55 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Heat will try to extend their winning streak to five games on Wednesday when they visit their Florida neighbors, the Orlando Magic. The Heat bested Southeast rivals, the Atlanta Hawks, 104-88, Tuesday night at home. The victory came without Dwyane Wade, who rested his chronically achy knees.
Miami, which is first in field-goal percentage, shot 50.6 percent against the Hawks. The Heat held Atlanta under 45 percent shooting and forced 24 Hawks turnovers.
It was an off night for LeBron James, the two-time defending MVP and reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week. He only scored 13 points, but extended his streak of consecutive games scoring in double figures to 505.
Chris Bosh led the Heat with 19 points, followed by 17 from Ray Allen and 14 from Mario Chalmers. The Miami bench accounted for 45 points against the Hawks and only one of the 13 Heat players who saw action failed to get into the scoring column.
"It's very encouraging our reserves were able to give us a spark," Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said.
The Heat have taken two straight on the road after they dropped their first two away from AmericanAirlines Arena.
The Magic have dropped four of their last five with the only victory coming at home against the Milwaukee Bucks one week ago. They fell to the Dallas Mavericks, 108-100 at home on Saturday.
"Turnovers got us behind a little bit especially in that first half," said Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn. "We gave up 59 points and a lot of those were off our turnovers which. We talked about it and will continue to address it, we dug ourselves a little hole."
Dallas converted 19 Orlando turnovers into 22 points. The Mavs shot 51.2 percent from the field, but the Magic actually shot 52.9 percent.
Arron Afflalo continued his magnificent start to the season with 25 points. Nikola Vucevic managed 16 points and Jameer Nelson chipped in 15. Moe Harkless and rookie Victor Oladipo also scored in double figures.
The Magic and Heat will meet in South Beach on Saturday night.
The Heat have won five in a row against the Magic, but the two teams have split their last four matchups in the Magic Kingdom.
