Vucevic carries Magic over Sixers

Nov 28, 2013 - 6:21 AM Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Nikola Vucevic poured in 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Orlando Magic to a 105-94 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

Vucevic for 10-for-13 from the field and also dished out five assists against his former club. Vucevic was dealt to the Magic prior to the 2012-13 season.

Glen Davis added 19 points, Victor Oladipo had 18 points, five assists and five steals, but also committed eight of Orlando's 17 turnovers. Arron Afflalo finished with 18 points for Orlando, which has won two straight on the heels of a four-game skid.

"We had a pretty impressive win last (Tuesday) night. We hadn't had the best track record of backing up good victories with solid, back-to-back victories on back-to-back nights," said Afflalo. "It got a little ugly there in the second and third quarters, but we showed a little mental toughness and got us a good victory."

Thaddeus Young scored 26 points off the bench and Evan Turner finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Sixers, losers in six of their last seven games.

"When you look at their interior bigs ... we couldn't guard them, and we had to go to schemes and different ways to get help to our bigs. It's a problem," said Sixers head coach Brett Brown. "We ended up doing a better job, but we don't want to have to live in schemes."

Rookie Michael Carter-Williams scored 23 points and added four steals in the setback.

Orlando led 83-77 following an Andrew Nicholson floater just over two minutes into the fourth quarter, but the Sixers were able to battle back and shave their deficit to 85-83 after Young knocked down a baseline fadeaway.

Orlando used a 15-7 burst to go up 100-90 with 2 1/2 minutes showing and Philadelphia couldn't get closer than eight the rest of the way.

Vucevic heated up early against his former team, scoring 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting in the first quarter. Oladipo added 10 points for the Magic, who led 33-27 after the first 12 minutes.

Philadelphia led 18-15 following a Turner layup at the 5:24 mark, but the Magic closed the frame on an 18-9 run.

Orlando went up 55-40 with just under four minutes to go in the first half, but Philadelphia scored the final 10 points of the quarter to go into the break down 55-50.

A Turner jumper got the Sixers within 61-60 five minutes into the third, but Orlando quickly stretched the lead back to eight after Vucevic knocked down a hook shot at the 5:36 mark. The Sixers managed to get back within one possession when Hollis Thompson put back a Young miss and went into the final frame trailing 77-73.
