Balanced Grizzlies take care of Celtics

Nov 28, 2013 - 4:31 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jerryd Bayless led five Memphis players in double figures with 22 points in the Grizzlies' 100-93 win over the Boston Celtics.

Mike Conley finished with 14 points and nine assists, Zach Randolph had 13 points and seven rebounds and Tony Allen chipped in with 12 points for the Grizzlies, winners in five of their last seven games.

"I think we got some great defensive rebounds from them missing a couple of their looks. Good outlet passes, good steals and finishing in transition. When our defense is playing well, we play well," said Conley.

Jeff Green scored 26 points and Jared Sullinger added 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Celtics, who have dropped seven of their last nine games.

"We just learn from it. That's the fight we have to have all game. We got in a hole early in the first quarter, but it was great to see us battling. But we can't put ourselves in that position," said Green.

A pair of Green free throws pulled Boston within one, 12-11, just past the midway point of the first quarter, but the Grizzlies closed the period with a 15-2 burst to take a 27-13 lead after 12 minutes.

Memphis' lead swelled to 19 points, 38-19, just over five minutes into the second stanza. It was a 49-36 game at the break.

The Celtics had pulled within single digits, 59-50, after a Green runner and went into the final frame down 69-59.

The Grizzlies went up 83-68 after Nick Calathes found Ed Davis for an alley- oop slam early in the fourth.

Boston managed to pull within 94-90 after Green buried a trey with 21 seconds left. After a pair of Randolph free throws, Avery Bradley nailed a 3-pointer of his own with 14 ticks showing, but it would be as close as the Celtics would get the rest of the way.
