Dragic, Suns end Trail Blazers' winning ways

Nov 28, 2013 - 6:44 AM Phoenix, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Goran Dragic made four 3-pointers and had 31 points with 10 assists and the Phoenix Suns ended the Portland Trail Blazers' 11-game winning streak with a 120-106 victory on Wednesday night.

Channing Frye added 25 points, Markieff Morris scored 19 and Marcus Morris had 15 for the Suns, who shot 51.9 percent overall and 10-of-24 from 3-point range to set a season high in points scored.

"Sometimes there's a team that maybe matchups create a little bit of a problem," Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. "With our point guards, we run a lot of pick and rolls so we make those guys have to guard the pick and rolls. Defensively our guys, we know not to let these guys get three-point shots. That's a big part of their game, so they were just focused."

The Blazers were led by LaMarcus Aldridge's 24 points. They hadn't lost since Nov. 5 to Houston -- their longest winning streak in almost six years.

Damian Lillard scored 16 points in the loss and Nicolas Batum had 15.

The Blazers fell to 13-3, with two of their three losses coming against the Suns.

"I don't know. We had a great start," Batum said. "We played like we want to play: great defense, we put the ball inside, we moved the ball and we were sharing the ball. Everything was perfect. We go up 16 and the bench comes in and they do the same job. Then we aren't making shots, we missed one shot, two shots, three shots and they got hot. And we know when this team gets on fire from three you have to stop them and that's what happened tonight."

Aldridge scored 11 points and the Blazers shot 56.5 percent in the first quarter to take a 32-21 lead. They used a 9-2 run spanning the first and second quarters to build a 39-23 lead after two straight baskets by Joel Freeland.

But the Suns scored 30 of the next 43 points -- Dragic had 11 of them -- and took a 53-52 lead after consecutive 3-pointers by Gerald Green. They shot nearly 60 percent in the quarter and carried a 61-58 edge into halftime.

Frye opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer and Dragic hit one three minutes in to give the Suns a 13-point lead.

Phoenix's advantage reached 14 points going into the fourth quarter at 90-76 and climbed as high as 22.
