Spurs try to regroup in road tilt against Magic

(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs lost for the first time in almost a month, but will try to get back in the win column Friday night when they visit the Orlando Magic.

San Antonio had taken 11 straight before a 94-88 setback in Oklahoma City Wednesday night.

The Spurs were uncharacteristically poor shooting the ball. They shot 39.1 percent from the field and only 7-for-27 from long range. San Antonio even struggled to 64 percent from the foul line.

"We didn't shoot the ball very well that's for sure," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "I thought a pretty good percentage of our 3-pointers were hurried or frazzled. I didn't like our shot selection."

Tony Parker led a balanced, but ineffective Spurs attack with 16 points. Kawhi Leonard added 14 and 10 rebounds, while Manu Ginobili chipped in 12 off the bench.

Tim Duncan managed 11 points and Boris Diaw scored 10 points.

The Spurs return to Alamo City after Friday brings an end to a mini road trip.

The Magic are riding a two-game winning streak with a road victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday and a home decision over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

The Magic beat up on an undermanned Sixers team to the tune of a 105-94 win.

"We had a pretty impressive win last (Tuesday) night. We hadn't had the best track record of backing up good victories with solid, back-to-back victories on back-to-back nights," said Arron Afflalo. "It got a little ugly there in the second and third quarters, but we showed a little mental toughness and got us a good victory."

Without starting center Spencer Hawes, the Sixers had no answer for Orlando's Nikola Vucevic. The Magic big man had 21 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Glen Davis was next in scoring for the Magic with 19 points, followed by 18 from Afflalo and Victor Oladipo. Andrew Nicholson contributed 11 off the bench.

The Magic did commit 17 turnovers on Wednesday, but shot 52.4 percent from the floor.

Orlando hits the road for six straight, starting in Washington on Monday.

The Spurs have won four in a row over the Magic, including two straight in Florida.
