Rockets aim to get on track with Warriors in town

Dec 6, 2013 - 3:11 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Golden State Warriors had enough time to rest from their improbable comeback earlier this week and will begin a three-game road trip Friday against the Houston Rockets.

The Warriors rallied from 27 points down (75-48), including 18 in the fourth quarter, in Tuesday's 112-103 victory versus the Toronto Raptors at Oracle Arena. Steph Curry scored 14 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and Klay Thompson sank four 4-pointers in the decisive frame and had 22 points.

Golden State scored 42 of the 57 points in the last 12 minutes and recorded its first comeback of more than 18 points in the fourth quarter since the Philadelphia Warriors rallied from 19 points down against Boston on February 9, 1962.

Curry dished out 10 assists, while Harrison Barnes and David Lee scored 19 and 18 points, respectively. The Warriors shot 50.6 percent from the field to win for the third time in five games and last outscored an opponent by 27 or more points in the fourth quarter on Nov. 2, 1991 versus Sacramento.

"We were bad on both sides of the basketball but I am extremely proud of my basketball team," said Golden State head coach Marc Jackson. "This being my third year here, there hasn't been a bigger win in regards to statement. Those guys in the second half were incredible and in the fourth quarter exceptional."

Curry has been exceptional the last three games, posting an average of 31.7 points and 8.3 assists in that time.

Now the Warriors will hit the road again and are 5-6 as the guest. They went 2-2 on a recent junket and have finished .500 or better on six of its last eight road trips of three-plus games. Golden State will also make stops in Memphis and Charlotte.

Lee has scored in double figures in a career-best 95 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, the Rockets are looking to avoid a season-high third straight loss when they resume a three-game homestand Friday at the Toyota Center.

Houston had won five in a row and eight of nine games until dropping back-to- back contests against Utah and Phoenix. In Wednesday's 97-88 loss to the Suns in the opener of the homestand, James Harden went 3-for-17 from the floor and 0-for-10 from 3-point range for 14 points for the Rockets, who were held to their lowest scoring output of the season and shot just 35.2 percent.

Dwight Howard posted 15 points and 18 rebounds, and Aaron Brooks finished with 17 points and six assists in defeat.

"Phoenix came out and got real aggressive with us," said Houston coach Kevin McHale. "We didn't have any flow tonight but that's two games in a row now that we didn't have any flow."

The Rockets had won six in a row at home and dropped to 8-3 as the host. They played without forward Chandler Parsons (back) and center Omer Asik (thigh) and hope the two return Friday night.

Guard Jeremy Lin, who is expected to miss about a week or so with a sprained right knee, is on the mend and back shooting around. Lin is averaging 15.3 points per game.

"(The training staff) told me it's going to be a lot depending on how you feel," Lin said of returning. "Before I try to get out on the floor, I want to be able to help my team out there, so I'll make sure my conditioning is right before I get out there.

"When I feel right, I'll play. Obviously I'd love to play, but I'm not going to put any date, any time. When I feel right, I'll be out there as soon as I can."

Houston is leading the NBA with 108.1 points per game, but is one of the worst in opponents' scoring (102.8 ppg). The Rockets will have to guard the perimeter closely with sharpshooters Curry and Thompson in the building.

The Rockets will close the homestand Sunday versus Orlando and took three of four meetings with Golden State last season. Houston is a dominant 17-3 in the past 20 matchups with the Warriors and 9-1 in the last 10 as the host.
