Hawks, Cavs tangle in Atlanta

The Hawks can join the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat as the only teams in the conference with winning records. (The Washington Wizards can also get over the hump with a win at home Friday against the lowly Milwaukee Bucks.)
Atlanta stopped a two-game losing streak with a 107-97 home victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday. The Hawks had lost two straight on the road, but have won two in a row in Atlanta.
In the Clippers win, Kyle Korver returned to the lineup after a four-game absence due to a rib injury. He went 6-for-9 from 3-point range to finish with 23 points and a spot in the NBA record book.
Korver matched Dana Barros for longest consecutive game streak with a made 3- pointer. They both hit from beyond the arc in 89 straight, but Korver can own the mark with a 3-point make on Friday.
"It's been over a long period of time, so then this rib thing happens," Korver said. "Not that it's all about the streak, people talk about it a lot. I hope we can get back to playing."
Paul Millsap led the Hawks against the Clips with 25 points and Al Horford chipped in 21.
The Cavs have won two straight for the first time this season thanks to a pair of home victories over the Chicago Bulls and Denver Nuggets. Cleveland bested Denver, 98-88 on Wednesday.
The Cavs big men were awesome on Wednesday. Tristan Thompson scored 17 points and pulled down 21 rebounds and Anderson Varejao managed 18 points and 13 boards in a reserve role.
All tallied, the Cavaliers outrebounded the Nuggets 58-43.
"You can't win a game when you give up 20 offensive rebounds like we did tonight," said Denver head coach Brian Shaw. "Their bigs just beat up on our bigs, is what it came down to."
Kyrie Irving had 23 points and Andrew Bynum, who is settling into his role as starting center very nicely, finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.
The two sides split the four meeting last season, but prior to that, the Hawks had won seven straight. Atlanta is 5-1 in its last six at home against Cleveland.
