Philly makes quick stop in Brooklyn

Dec 16, 2013 - 4:06 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - Winning on the road has been a major issue for the Philadelphia 76ers this season and they'll try to halt a 10-game slide as the guest Monday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Since defeating the Washington Wizards in their road opener back on Nov. 1, the Sixers have dropped 10 straight away from home. They lost 15 road games in a row last season.

The Sixers, who will play seven of the next eight on the road, have lost six straight overall and 10 of their last 11 games, including Saturday's embarrassing 139-105 loss to the hot-shooting Portland Trail Blazers. The Blazers shot 55.9 percent and buried the Sixers with 21-of-37 3-pointers.

"They have the league's most efficient offense. It sure felt like that," Sixers head coach Brett Brown said.

Eight Portland players scored in double figures, while the 76ers were led by Tony Wroten's 18 points. Hollis Thompson (17), Spencer Hawes (16), Thaddeus Young (15) and James Anderson (14) also finished in double digits.

Philadelphia, which opened the season with a surprising 3-0 mark, is last in opponents' scoring (110.4 ppg) and has allowed 100-plus points in 22 of the 25 games this season. The Sixers are averaging 17.9 turnovers this season.

Brooklyn will try to get back into the win column Monday and had a season-high three-game winning streak come to an end with Friday's 103-99 loss at Detroit.

Deron Williams scored 22 points while Andray Blatche scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Nets, who sank 12-of-23 3-pointers and got 12 points from both Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson. Mirza Teletovic scored 17 points off the bench in defeat.

"It doesn't matter who plays for us or who we're playing, we have to protect the paint and we didn't do that tonight," Nets coach Jason Kidd said.

Kidd's best interior player, center Brook Lopez, did not play and is questionable Monday with an illness. The same goes for Johnson.

Brooklyn has won two in a row at Barclays Center and is 4-6 at home.

Nets veteran forward Kevin Garnett reached the 14,000 mark in rebounds with eight against the Pistons and finished with four points. Garnett is the third player in NBA history to post 25,000 points, 14,000 rebounds and 5,000 assists, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone.

The Nets and Sixers are meeting for the first time since Brooklyn took three of four matchups a season ago, including both games at Barclays Center. The Nets have won four of the past six contests in this Atlantic Division series.
