Hawks crush Jazz to stay hot

Dec 21, 2013 - 4:02 AM Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Lou Williams poured in 25 points and Al Horford added 23 to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 118-85 thumping of the Utah Jazz from Philips Arena.

Williams was 6-for-10 from 3-point range, tying a career high for 3-pointers made in a game.

Paul Millsap chipped in a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds and Jeff Teague finished with nine points and eight assists for the Hawks, winners in four of their last five games.

"I think we played extremely well tonight on both ends. We defended very well and stuck to the game plan very well. We were able to make shots. I just think that it was one of those nights that you have everything clicking on all cylinders," Williams said.

Enes Kanter had 13 points and 13 rebounds, Alec Burks finished with 13 points and Gordon Hayward donated 11 for the Jazz, losers in three of their last four.

"Just low energy all night long. I thought that we didn't come out with the sense of urgency that we have been seeing," said Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin. "I thought we turned the corner, and like the way we played in Orlando the other night. I was looking for that kind of effort, but we just didn't have from the beginning of the game tonight."

Atlanta led from the get-go, opening the first quarter on a 23-10 run. Utah got it down to seven following a pair of Marvin Williams 3-pointers, but the Hawks closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 30-16 lead after 12 minutes.

Utah shot a dismal 26.1 percent (6-for-23) in the first quarter.

The Hawks kept their foot on the pedal in the second, outscoring the Jazz 25-18 to take a 55-34 lead into the break.

Atlanta's lead swelled to 27 after Jeff Teague's 3-point play 3:45 into the third, and a 15-7 swing later in the period made the score 82-51. The Jazz outscored the Hawks 7-4 over the final 2:12 of the quarter, though, to pull within 85-58 entering the final frame.

Utah never got closer than 22 points down over the final 12 minutes.
