Magic continue western trek in Sacramento
Jan 10, 2014 - 3:35 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Orlando Magic are mired in a five-game losing streak and will resume their western jaunt Friday against the Sacramento Kings. The Magic are winless (0-2) so far on the trip and suffered their third road loss in a row with Wednesday's 110-94 setback at Portland. All five Orlando starters scored 10 or more points and Arron Afflalo led the way with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
Jameer Nelson contributed 17 points, 10 assists and five rebounds, while Glen Davis (16), Victor Oladipo (14) and Tobias Harris (11) rounded out the double- digit scorers.
Orlando led 51-45 at halftime and 75-71 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Trail Blazers outscored the Magic, 39-19, in the final stanza. Portland outscored Orlando, 42-24, in the paint.
"We contained the 3-point shooting in the first three quarters and they end up making 3's in the fourth," Orlando head coach Jacque Vaughn said. "That's a good team."
The Magic, who are trying to avoid their second six-game slide of the season, own a 3-14 record outside Amway Center and will also make stops in Denver and Dallas on this sojourn.
Sacramento is 1-2 on its five-game homestand and recorded a 123-119 victory versus the Trail Blazers on Tuesday.
The Kings were led by DeMarcus Cousins, who had 35 points and 13 rebounds. Rudy Gay recorded 32 points and Isaiah Thomas netted 22, lifting the Kings to a 7-13 home record.
"I'm going to focus on the 13 points allowed in the third and the 43 percent shooting we held them to," Kings coach Mike Malone said. "I thought we defended at a very high level."
Sacramento's 123 points were a season high and the team has scored 100-plus points in 16 of the last 17 contests, including the last 10 games.
The Kings will also host Cleveland on this homestand and defeated Orlando, 105-100, on Dec. 21 in the Magic Kingdom. Sacramento has won three straight against the Magic.
