Suns resume trip against Grizzlies

(SportsNetwork.com) - The Phoenix Suns will try to get over .500 on this recent road trip Friday night when they visit FedExForum to take on the Memphis Grizzlies.

Phoenix dropped the first contest on a five-game odyssey Tuesday in Chicago, but got back into the win column Wednesday with a 104-103 nail-biter over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Gerald Green scored 14 points, but none were bigger than his jumper late in the fourth quarter that pushed the Suns to victory. Markieff Morris dropped a pass off to Green, who buried a corner jumper while falling out of bounds that put the Suns up with 3.9 seconds left.

"I just knew to just catch it and rise up and shoot it. The ball went in for me," Green said.

Kevin Martin of Minnesota missed a three-footer to tie.

Goran Dragic scored 12 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to help the Suns snap a two-game losing streak against the Wolves. Channing Frye scored 22 points on 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range, while Miles Plumlee posted 11 points with nine rebounds for Phoenix. Marcus Morris finished with 10 points.

The Suns are doing battle without Eric Bledsoe, who is gone indefinitely after knee surgery. The extent of the damage is unknown.

In his place, the Suns brought back a familiar face in the form of Leandro Barbosa. He played 13:24 in his debut against the Wolves and had three points on 1-for-6 shooting.

The Grizzlies have alternated wins and losses over the last eight games, but dropped the first on a four-game homestand Tuesday with a heartbreaking 110-108 overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs led 91-75 with 5 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter and were 12 clear with just under two minutes. Memphis furiously charged back and forced overtime and actually led in the extra session.

With the game tied, San Antonio gave Manu Ginobili the ball and the star converted a layup with little time to spare. Mike Conley missed a long 3- pointer and Memphis lost.

"In overtime, we decided to switch everything, and (Ginobili) turned the corner against all three guys and against our best athlete (Ed Davis), which is a guy we would love to have taking him on," said Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger. "Ed made a good play on it and Ginobili just made a little bit better play."

Conley led the Grizz with 30, followed by 17 from Zach Randolph. James Johnson added 15 points off the bench, Jon Leuer chipped in 10 and newly-acquired Courtney Lee managed 12 in his Memphis debut.

The Grizzlies took both of this season's meetings and the Suns have lost four of five and six of eight in Memphis.
