Kings beat Cavs by 44
Jan 13, 2014 - 4:47 AM Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Isaiah Thomas poured in a game-high 26 points and dished out six assists to help lead the Sacramento Kings to a 124-80 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.Rudy Gay totaled 20 and DeMarcus Cousins added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings, who have won three straight. Derrick Williams and Jimmer Fredette both added 13 points for the hosts.
"We've been executing really well on the defensive end," said Sacramento forward Jason Thompson.
C.J. Miles had 14 points and Anderson Varejao had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Cleveland, which had a two-game win streak snapped. Luol Deng and Earl Clark scored 12 and 11 points, respectively and both added five boards in the lopsided defeat.
The first quarter was very tight as neither team led by more than five points. To go along with the slim margin there were nine lead changes and five ties and the Cavaliers led by two, 32-30, heading into the second quarter.
Gay knocked down an 18-footer a minute into the second quarter to ignite a 19-4 burst for Sacramento. The Kings led 49-39 with 7:04 remaining. After they traded hoops over the last six minutes, Sacramento led 59-50 at the half.
The Kings outscored Cleveland 30-11 in the third quarter, with Thomas and Gay scoring nine points apiece in the quarter.
"We kept trying to get it back offensively instead of trying to get it back defensively," said Cleveland head coach Mike Brown, "and then when our jump shot wasn't falling, we kept taking them instead of trying to get to the rim to see if we could get to the free throw line."
Sacramento led 89-61 at the start of the final 12 minutes and again began a quarter with a run, this time a 27-10 surge. The Kings led 116-70 following the run.
