Magic bring losing streak back home, host Bulls
Jan 15, 2014 - 3:12 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Orlando Magic will try to snap an eight-game losing streak Wednesday night when they return home to the Amway Center to host the Chicago Bulls. The Magic haven't won in 2014, although their home losing streak stands at only two games. Orlando just went 0-5 on a west-coast swing, but plays three in a row and five of six at home.
On Monday, the Magic closed their sojourn with a 107-88 blowout loss in Dallas to the Mavericks.
Down 18 at the half, the Magic flew out of the gate to start the second half. They scored on eight consecutive possessions early in the third to cut the deficit to six.
"It was a good response by the group after halftime, great response from our guys over the course of the night" said Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn. "You want to build this thing possession by possession, quarter by quarter. We're playing the right way."
All five Orlando starters scored in double digits, led by Jameer Nelson's 21- point, seven-assist effort. Glen Davis finished with 19, followed by 13 from Moe Harkless, 11 out of Victor Oladipo and 10 from Tobias Harris.
Arron Afflalo (foot) and Nikola Vucevic (concussion) missed Monday's game. There is no timetable of Vucevic's return, but Afflalo could be back on Wednesday.
The Bulls had a five-game winning streak snapped on Monday when they fell to the Washington Wizards at home, 102-88.
"Right when you're feeling too good about yourself, you're feeling invincible, a team comes in there and smacks you, wakes you up to reality," Bulls forward Taj Gibson said.
The Bulls never led on Monday and allowed the Wizards to shoot 52 percent from the floor.
Carlos Boozer had 19 points and seven rebounds and Joakim Noah grabbed 16 boards for Chicago to go along with eight points. Jimmy Butler and Tony Snell both had 12 points and Mike Dunleavy, the new starter since Luol Deng was traded, finished with 10.
The Bulls will visit Washington on Friday to complete this little road trip.
The Magic beat the Bulls by one in Chicago on Dec. 16. That halted a five-game winning streak for the Bulls over Orlando, but Chicago still owns a six-game winning streak in Orlando.
