Kings aim to bounce back in Minnesota
Jan 15, 2014 - 3:39 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Sacramento Kings had a winning streak halted last time out, so they'll be trying to reclaim an edge Wednesday night when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Kings had a three-game winning streak ended Tuesday when they went to Indianapolis and left with a 116-92 loss to the Pacers.
The Pacers built a 29-point lead in the final quarter before both coaches emptied their benches.
"For the most part we couldn't stop their transition basketball," said Kings forward Rudy Gay. "They were playing great, they aren't really a transition team. In the second half they scored off of our turnovers and made it a lot easier for them."
DeMarcus Cousins recorded his 11th straight double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds for the Kings. Rudy Gay added 12 points in the loss as they were the only two Kings in double figures.
The Wolves have alternated wins and losses over their last eight.
On Friday, Minny fell in San Antonio to the Spurs, 104-86.
The Wolves came as close as 10 points in the final frame but San Antonio had the game well in hand and cruised to the victory.
Nikola Pekovic tallied 22 points and six rebounds and Kevin Love had 14 points with seven rebounds for Minnesota. Alexey Shved finished with 11 points in the defeat.
"That's just Spurs basketball," said Love. "They're very unselfish, they make the extra play and that's tough to beat, especially when they have a couple of Hall-of-Famers in there.
"They've played together for a long time and they're a good team. We played them well through the half and then they became the San Antonio Spurs. So it's tough, especially when they're here in their building."
Minnesota's 86 points was its fewest since Dec. 7.
The Wolves took two of three last season against the Kings and are unbeaten in the last three at home in this series.
