Spurs hold off Jazz
Jan 16, 2014 - 5:32 AM San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Tony Parker had 25 points and nine assists and the San Antonio Spurs survived a late-game rally to beat the Utah Jazz 109-105 on Wednesday for their sixth straight win.Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard and Marco Belinelli scored 15 points apiece for the Spurs, who have won 26 of their last 28 home games against Utah, including six in a row. They have won four in a row overall over the Jazz.
Belinelli made four straight free throws down the stretch to help San Antonio remain in front as Washington cut a 14-point Spurs lead to two in the last three minutes.
Trey Burke scored 11 of his 17 points for the Jazz in the fourth quarter -- all in a row during their 17-5 run.
"I learn a lot. You can learn so much by playing against a guy like that," Burke said about Parker. "He has been in the league for years and is very experienced. He is one of the best there is and I always personally thought that he never gets enough credit for what he has done in this league. One minute he is distributing and the next minute he scores six to eight points. It is always a privilege playing against a guy like that."
Enes Kanter had 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead Utah, Alec Burks scored 20 and Derrick Favors added 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Burke's leaning 3-pointer with 21 seconds left got the Jazz within 105-102 and Belinelli made two free throws at the other end.
The same thing happened again after that: Burke made a deep 3 from the high right side and Belinelli went 2-for-2 with 3.4 seconds left to make it a four- point game and seal the win.
Earlier, the Spurs shot almost 64 percent in the third quarter, stretching a five-point halftime lead to 12 going into the fourth.
Parker had 12 points in the quarter, including eight during a 16-3 run that pushed San Antonio's advantage to 18. It was 81-69 at the horn.
"He pulled us through it again," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said about Parker. "I thought in the third quarter Timmy (Duncan), he and Manu (Ginobili) all played really well and got the lead for us."
Manu Ginobili and Leonard hit 3-pointers during a 10-2 run in the first that gave the Spurs a nine-point lead.
They were up 28-25 going into the second quarter and later scored nine of the last 12 points in the half to carry a 50-45 advantage into the break behind 10 points from Leonard. Favors scored 13 in the half for Utah.
