Clippers, Pacers tangle in Indianapolis
Jan 18, 2014 - 3:00 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Indiana Pacers have won three straight and will get a stern test from one of the Western Conference's best when the Los Angeles Clippers head to Bankers Life Fieldhouse Saturday night. The Pacers have sent the league a message after their loss in Atlanta 10 days ago. In the three games since, the Pacers have won by an average of 26.3 points and have held those opponents to a staggering 82.3 points.
"It's been a point of emphasis the last three of four games, since we had a little bit of an offensive lull right after the New Year, just to play harder off the basketball, and cut harder, screen harder, run into screens, run out of screens, crash, run the floor - all those things. What you're doing without the basketball matters," said head coach Frank Vogel.
On Thursday, the Pacers destroyed the New York Knicks, 117-89.
Lance Stephenson launched a "Sir Lancealot" video campaign Tuesday night in an effort to get himself into the upcoming All-Star Game in New Orleans.
It's tough to make a case against him.
Stephenson had 28 points, four rebounds and four assists in the lopsided victory.
Paul George added 25 points and seven rebounds for the Pacers, followed by 12 from David West, 11 apiece out of Roy Hibbert and Danny Granger and 10 from Luis Scola.
The Pacers only committed six turnovers on Thursday.
Indiana finishes a four-game homestand on Saturday, then heads west for five games where they'll face Golden State, Phoenix, Sacramento, Denver and the LA Lakers.
The Clippers began a seven-game eastern trip with a decisive, 109-95 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden Friday night.
The Clips have won five straight, including a 4-0 homestand, and have run their record to 5-1 since losing All-Star point guard Chris Paul to a separated shoulder.
Blake Griffin poured in 32 points and Jamal Crawford scored 29 points in 29 minutes off the bench. DeAndre Jordan had 11 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks for the Clippers and Darren Collison and J.J. Redick both scored 12 for LA.
"We buckled down and played within ourselves and really relied on our system," said Griffin. "No one is trying to do too much."
The Clippers visit Detroit, Charlotte, Chicago, Toronto and Milwaukee on this odyssey.
The Pacers beat the Clippers in Los Angeles on Dec. 1 and have taken four of six from the Clips. LA beat the Pacers in Indianapolis last season, but the Pacers won three straight before that.
