Struggling Knicks host 76ers
Jan 22, 2014 - 3:17 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of struggling Atlantic Division foes tangle Wednesday at Madison Square Garden, where the New York Knicks take on the Philadelphia 76ers.The Knicks have dropped four in a row since a season-high five-game winning streak, while the Sixers are winless in three straight and seven of their last eight games.
New York fell to 0-2 on an eight-game homestand with Monday's 103-80 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, as Carmelo Anthony posted 26 points and 12 rebounds in a losing effort.
"On the defensive end we were just scrambling," said Anthony, the subject of trade rumors recently.
The Knicks shot a season-low 33.8 percent (24-of-71) from the field and received 15 points from J.R. Smith. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 11 points for the Knicks, who are 7-14 at home this season.
New York will also host Charlotte, the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston, Cleveland and Miami on this homestand, which is tied for the longest stay in franchise history. The Knicks went 4-4 back in December of 1986.
Philadelphia will close out a three-game road trip Wednesday and is coming off Monday's 107-99 loss at Washington. Rookie Michael Carter-Williams poured in 31 points on 13-of-22 shooting and Thaddeus Young added 18 points.
Spencer Hawes finished with 11 points and 16 rebounds for the 76ers, who fell to 5-16 away from home.
"I thought defensively we were decent in the second half," said Sixers coach Brett Brown. "We competed."
The 76ers have lost three in a row on the road and suffered a 102-92 loss to the Knicks back on Jan. 11 at Wells Fargo Center. New York has won 11 of the last 15 meetings with the Sixers and four of five as the host in this series.
