Jefferson helps Bobcats drop Clippers
Jan 23, 2014 - 4:18 AM Charlotte, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Al Jefferson had 24 points and 10 rebounds as the Charlotte Bobcats defeated the Los Angeles Clippers, 95-91, on Wednesday night.Josh McRoberts tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Gerald Henderson added 13 points and seven boards for the Bobcats, who have won three of their last four games.
"It was defense. We got stops, we got rebounds when we needed to," Jefferson said.
Bobcats point guard Kemba Walker missed his second straight game due to a left ankle sprain.
Blake Griffin netted 27 points, but just one in the fourth quarter. Jamal Crawford scored 20 points and DeAndre Jordan snatched 20 rebounds for Los Angeles, which fell to 6-3 since losing point guard Chris Paul to a shoulder injury.
"We weren't hitting a lot of shots tonight and Blake saved us for a long time," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. "Then they started trapping him."
A Jared Dudley 3-pointer pulled the Clippers within 88-87 with 2:39 to play and after Charlotte's Ramon Sessions split a pair of free throws, Crawford nailed a jumper to tie the tilt at 89-89 with 1:05 left.
The Bobcats, though, netted the next six points to seize control of the contest.
Sessions came up way short on a floater from the paint, but Henderson snatched the miss along the right baseline and dunked the ball on the other side of the basket with 22.5 ticks remaining.
Crawford then missed a layup at the other end and Griffin was unable to get his putback to drop. McRoberts sunk two free throws with 13.9 seconds left and after Griffin missed a layup, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist knocked down two more foul shots to seal the outcome.
The Bobcats held a 26-25 edge after a quarter of play, but the Clippers outscored them 24-22 in the second to take a 49-48 lead into the break.
Neither team led by more than five points in the third and Charlotte headed into the final frame with a 72-70 cushion.
