Lakers resume Florida tour, visit Magic
Jan 24, 2014 - 2:47 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Lakers have dropped two in a row on this Grammy road trip, but the end is in sight and they'll meet the Orlando Magic Friday night at Amway Center.LA dropped the first of this seven-game odyssey, then took two in a row, but since the back-to-back wins, the Lakers are 0-2. On Monday, they fell to the Chicago Bulls on a last-second, overtime layup, but things weren't that close on Thursday.
The two-time defending champion Miami Heat walked out with a 109-102 victory over the Lakers, sweeping the season series in back-to-back seasons for the first time in franchise history.
Although the Heat never trailed, the outcome was still up in the air until the final minute when Chris Bosh's 18-footer secured Miami's victory.
"We hit a couple big shots down the stretch, they just hit a couple bigger shots and they beat us," Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni said.
Pau Gasol and Jodie Meeks both netted 22 points for the Lakers, while Nick Young contributed 19 points on 20 shots in the loss.
The Lakers forced 18 turnovers but allowed Miami to shoot 57.7 percent from the field.
LA will visit Madison Square Garden on Sunday to take on the Knicks, then it's back to the Staples Center, where the Grammy Awards will be handed out Sunday night.
The Magic snapped a 10-game losing streak with a win on Sunday, but have dropped two in a row since. Orlando fell at Brooklyn on Tuesday, then lost by three to the Atlanta Hawks at home on Wednesday.
The Hawks did it at the free-throw line late in the victory. Jeff Teague and Pero Antic converted six big foul shots with under a minute to go and Jameer Nelson's 3-pointer to tie it came up short.
Victor Oladipo paced Orlando with 24 points and added seven rebounds and seven assists. Tobias Harris finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Nelson contributed 17 points and seven assists in Orlando's 12th loss in its last 13 games.
"It's tough, we had it won really," said Oladipo. "Overall I think we did a good job of just staying into the game."
The Magic hit the road for three straight.
The two teams split last season's meetings with each team winning in the other's building. The Magic have won four of the last six meetings with L.A.
