Grizzlies target home-and-home sweep of Rockets
Jan 25, 2014 - 3:08 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies go for a home-and-home sweep of the Southwest-rival Houston Rockets Saturday night at FedExForum. The Grizzlies rebounded from Monday's loss to New Orleans by recording an 88-87 triumph over the Rockets Friday from the Toyota Center. Courtney Lee scored 19 points to lead the visitors, while Zach Randolph and Mike Conley contributed 15 and 14 points, respectively.
"Mike had a great game, Courtney had a great game, and James (Johnson) had a great game," Randolph said. "It was a team win."
Memphis was able to prevail despite Houston forward Chandler Parsons lighting up for a career-high 34 points and making 10-of-14 3-pointers. The 10 3's were a franchise record. Robert Horry had nine back in 1996.
The Grizzlies will try to work on their 11-13 home mark Saturday and have won six of their last seven games. After hosting the Rockets, Memphis will visit Portland, Sacramento and Minnesota.
Houston is still 8-3 in its last 11 games and went 3-2 on its homestand.
Besides the contribution from Parsons, Dwight Howard tallied 11 points and 12 rebounds and James Harden added 10 points and 13 assists. Howard has 29 double-doubles on the season.
"Chandler was hot so we tried getting him the ball on a little action with the pick and roll with Dwight (Howard)," said Houston head coach Kevin McHale. "They put two on the ball and we didn't fill behind."
Parsons is averaging 28.0 ppg in his last three games for the Rockets, who had won four straight games within the division and were held to a season-low 30 points in the paint. They averaged 107.6 ppg on the homestand and are fourth in the NBA with 105.5 ppg.
The Rockets are 11-9 away from home and will return to Texas for Tuesday's showdown with San Antonio. They will then visit Dallas the next night.
Houston is 2-1 against Memphis this season and has lost five of six trips to FedExForum.
