Utah uses balanced attack to clip Kings

Jan 28, 2014 - 5:55 AM Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Derrick Favors led six Utah scorers in double figures with 17 points and also pulled down 12 rebounds to help the Jazz take a 106-99 win over the Sacramento Kings.

Marvin Williams and Enes Kanter scored 16 points apiece, with the former also pulling down 11 boards. Jeremy Evans finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Jazz, winners in two straight.

Gordon Hayward and Alec Burks finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.

The Kings also had six players reach double figures with Jason Thompson leading the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Derrick Williams added 17 points and 15 boards, Ben McLemore scored 14 and pulled down nine rebounds and Marcus Thornton added 11 points for the Kings, losers in four straight.

Travis Outlaw and Isaiah Thomas finished with 10 points apiece in the loss.

The Kings were without DeMarcus Cousins (sprained left ankle) and Rudy Gay (strained left Achilles) for the third straight game.

Hayward split a pair of free throws with 7:28 left to give Utah a 92-72 lead. The Kings, though, used an 18-7 run to cut the deficit to single digits just over five minutes later.

The Jazz held a three-possession lead from there until McLemore made it 104-99 with a three-point play with 31.7 ticks remaining.

The Kings, though, were held scoreless from there.

"I thought we executed well. In that second half, we came out with a lot more sense of urgency. We executed our offense, we got the ball from the strong side to the weak side," said Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin.

Sacramento held a 22-20 lead after the first quarter, but the teams went into the break knotted up at 50-50.

Utah opened up a 20-9 run to go up 81-67 late in the third and took an 81-70 lead into the final frame.

"I think in the third quarter we just started slow, a little sluggish. You aren't going to win too many games like that, the way we started the third quarter," Williams said.
