Clippers take win streak to Golden State

Jan 30, 2014 - 3:41 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Los Angeles Clippers will take their winning streak back to the road, but don't have to travel too far for Thursday's Western Conference showdown with the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena.

The Clippers just went 5-2 on a recent road trip and made a pit stop back at Staples Center Wednesday, when they disposed of the visiting Washington Wizards by a 110-103 score. Blake Griffin turned in another All-Star performance with 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Jamal Crawford scored 21 points off the bench.

"We were getting stops and getting to the foul line. We were getting good shots, good open looks, but our defense is what allowed us to do that," Griffin said after L.A.'s fourth straight win.

Griffin has scored 20 or more points in each of his last six games, averaging 26.2 points per game over that time. Crawford is posting an average of 24.9 ppg in his previous eight games for the Clippers, who have a 12-3 record in January and are second in the NBA in scoring with 106.3 ppg.

J.J. Redick scored 20 points versus the Wizards and Darren Collison added 16 in a winning effort. The Clippers have scored 109 points or more in each of their last nine victories and improved to 11-3 without point guard Chris Paul. They are 10-3 since CP3 suffered a shoulder injury early this month.

The Clippers entered Wednesday's game having made 39-of-71 3-pointers over a three-game stretch, but finished 6-of-15 from downtown versus Washington. Los Angeles will face a deadly 3-point shooting tandem in Golden State's Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.

"It's a team that's your rival. It's a team that you can see in the playoffs, so you want them thinking that you're better than them," Clippers forward Jared Dudley said of the Warriors. "For us, it's trying to get a big road win on a back-to-back in a national television game to make a statement."

The Clippers are 14-12 on the road and are slated to play six of seven games at home after visiting Oakland.

Golden State has dropped off since its 10-game winning streak, having lost six of the previous nine games, including Tuesday's 88-85 loss to the Wizards. It was the same Wizards team the Clippers just handled rather easily.

Curry and Thompson scored 23 and 13 points, respectively, while David Lee was the final double-digit scorer with 11 points. The Warriors shot just 37.5 percent and committed 19 turnovers, leading to 21 Washington points. John Wall's 3-pointer with 1:28 remaining broke an 85-85 tie.

"Just a bad night and a disappointing loss for us," Warriors head coach Mark Jackson said. "We played at their level."

Jackson's bunch has lost four of five games at home and will close out a five- game residency Thursday. It is 13-8 in Oakland this season. Jackson is still three wins shy of 100 for his career.

Golden State will visit Utah on Friday night.

Curry, who was voted to start the All-Star Game next month, needs 24 points to reach 6,000 in his young career and 24 assists for 2,000. He had 38 points in a loss at the Clippers on Oct. 31, then recorded 15 and 11 assists in a home win on Christmas Day.

The Clippers have lost four straight and 14 of 16 games in Oakland.
