Nets aim to bounce back versus 76ers

Feb 3, 2014 - 4:11 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Brooklyn Nets have dropped three in a row and will try to get back into the win column when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday.

Brooklyn dropped two at home to the Toronto Raptors and Oklahoma City Thunder, then fell in a hard-fought battle on the road to the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night.

The Nets fell 97-96 to the league's best team and despite their struggles recently, Brooklyn is still 10-4 in 2014.

Paul Pierce had a pair of 3-point looks that could've tied the game against Indiana, but neither fell. The Nets did force 24 Pacers turnovers, which was a season-high for Indiana.

"We gave ourselves a great opportunity to win on the road against the top team in the East," Nets head coach Jason Kidd said. "That's what you ask from your guys. The guys fought and we played a lot better."

Shaun Livingston set a season high with 24 points in a losing effort. Kevin Garnett registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Joe Johnson, Pierce and Deron Williams scored in double figures.

The Nets play four of their next five at The Barclays Center.

Philly is sputtering a bit, losing two straight and five of six.

After a 26-point home loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday in which head coach Brett Brown described it as the "worst loss of the season," the Sixers had no answers for the Detroit Pistons on Saturday.

Andre Drummond led four Pistons with 20 or more as Detroit cruised to a 113-96 home victory.

"It's definitely tough when you're losing basketball games," said forward Thaddeus Young. "But we can't let that deter what we're trying to do or get off of the path we're trying to take."

Tony Wroten started for rookie Michael Carter-Williams, who was a late scratch with a sore right shoulder, and led the Sixers with 18 points in the setback. Evan Turner and Elliot Williams had 15 points each, and Young went for 14 points with five steals.

The Sixers play their next two at home, then hit the road for a western trip before the All-Star break.

Each team has won a home game this season against the other, although Brooklyn is 6-4 in its last 10 overall. Philly has dropped three straight as the visitor in this series.
