Pacers, Mavs clash in Indy
Feb 12, 2014 - 3:10 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Indiana Pacers atoned for a tough loss by returning to the winner's circle last time out and they'll try to keep the momentum going Wednesday night when they welcome the Dallas Mavericks to Banker's Life Fieldhouse. After a heartbreaking one-point loss in Orlando to the Magic on Sunday, the Pacers demolished the Denver Nuggets at home, 119-80 Monday night.
"I thought we came out with a different resolve. We wanted to make sure we got control of this game and put it away," Pacers forward David West said.
West scored 25 points to lead the Pacers. Roy Hibbert deposited a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double and also added four blocks for the Pacers, who snapped their five-game skid to the Nuggets.
Paul George and Lance Stephenson scored 12 points apiece in the win.
George Hill scored 10 points and Luis Scola chipped in 11 points off the bench in just 13:55 minutes of action. All 13 Pacers made a field-goal and head coach Frank Vogel emptied his bench with 7:16 to go in the game.
Indiana shot a blistering 57.5 percent from the field and held the Nuggets to 31.5 percent shooting and 23.1 percent from long range.
The Pacers will head into the All-Star break with the best record in the Eastern Conference. Vogel, George and Hibbert are all headed to New Orleans for the All-Star game.
The Mavs had a five-game winning streak come to a crashing halt on Tuesday with a 114-89 setback in Charlotte to the Bobcats.
Dirk Nowitzki battled through a sprained left ankle to record 16 points, but the Mavericks struggled mightily on the defensive end as their season-high win streak was halted. Monta Ellis also had 16 points along with seven assists in the loss.
"Defensively, we had been doing a good job, but we gave up too many open shots [tonight] and we just weren't there mentally," Mavericks guard Devin Harris remarked.
The Bobcats shot an impressive 54.9 percent en route to only its second win in 19 lifetime meetings with Dallas.
Nowitzki's injury is the biggest story for the Mavs. He left early in the second quarter, returned after the half and scored 14 of his 16 points.
"Just went back...and got loose there pretty good in the second half, but it really didn't matter," Nowitzki said.
The Pacers have won three straight against the Mavericks and two in a row as the host. The Mavs are 6-4 in their last 10 against Indiana.
