Final
Jazz welcome Nets to Salt Lake City
Feb 19, 2014 - 3:07 PM (SportsNetwork.com) - The Utah Jazz begin the post-break portion of their schedule on a roll and will try to continue that momentum Wednesday night when they welcome the Brooklyn Nets to EnergySolutions Arena. The Jazz won the final three games before the All-Star break, including home victories over the two-time defending champion Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers last Wednesday.
Alec Burks notched 26 points in a reserve role to help the Jazz edge the 76ers, 105-100.
Gordon Hayward stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Marvin Williams tallied 13 points with a season-high 14 rebounds, while Enes Kanter and Richard Jefferson both contributed 12 points in the triumph.
"It wasn't our best game, execution-wise. But we had enough resiliency to win the ballgame," said Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin.
Burks and Hayward shot a combined 24-of-26 from the free throw line, while the Sixers made 18-of-23 as a team. Utah's reserves outscored Philadelphia's, 56-10.
The Jazz visit Portland on Friday, then play three straight at home before a long eastern trip.
The Nets continue a seven-game western sojourn Wednesday. They will also battle the Golden State Warriors, LA Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers, Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks.
Brooklyn had a two-game winning streak snapped just before the break when it fell to the Bulls in Chicago, 92-76 on Thursday. The 76 points represented a season-low, but the Nets were unhappy with the defense.
"We need to play better defense when Kevin (Garnett) comes out of the game. We sustain when he is in there, but he can't play 34 minutes," said forward Paul Pierce.
Pierce led the Nets with 15 points but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter. Brooklyn's lone All-Star, Joe Johnson, provided 11 points on 4-of-14 shooting.
Johnson finished with five points in the East's All-Star win on Sunday.
Deron Williams (13) and Shaun Livingston (10) also scored in double figures against the Bulls.
The Nets beat the Jazz by 16 in Brooklyn on Nov. 5 to snap a four-game series losing streak. The Jazz have won four straight against the Nets in Salt Lake City.
