Final
Grizzlies edge Bulls
Mar 8, 2014 - 4:49 AM Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Marc Gasol registered 18 points and 10 rebounds to guide the Memphis Grizzlies to a gritty 85-77 win over the Chicago Bulls.Mike Miller went 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and scored 14 for the Grizzlies, who have won eight of their last 11 games. Mike Conley and Kosta Koufos both had 12 points, while Zach Randolph totaled 10 points and 11 boards in his return to the lineup. Randolph did not play against the Nets Wednesday because of flu-like symptoms.
"We played good basketball, we played good defense," Randolph said. "We got stops when we needed stops. Marc had a great game. It was a team win."
Taj Gibson had 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter for Chicago, which had its five-game home winning streak broken. Joakim Noah ended with 15 points, eight boards and six assists.
"We didn't play well in the second half," Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. "In this league you usually get what you deserve. Missed shots are part of it. You can deal with that, but your defense and your rebounding you have to be able to count on."
The Bulls lost the lead late in the third quarter and never got it back.
A putback from Koufos with 1.7 seconds left in the third gave the Grizzlies a 65-63 edge. Conley's layup early in the fourth capped a 16-2 spurt that made the score 70-63.
Chicago got within two a few times in the final period, but some late mistakes cost the Bulls. With Chicago down 83-77, Kirk Hinrich missed a driving layup with 1:49 left, and on the next offensive possession Noah was whistled for a traveling violation. Gasol then cleaned up a Randolph miss, and the resulting tip-in accounted for the final margin with 21.9 seconds left.
The Bulls went 5-of-23 from the field in the opening 12 minutes, but only trailed 15-12 after the first quarter. The hosts turned it around in the second by connecting on 11-of-15 attempts and gained a 39-35 halftime edge.
Miller scored eight in the third quarter to help the visitors rally from an eight-point deficit. Noah's hook shot with 3:40 let in the period boosted Chicago to a 61-54 edge before Memphis' big push.
