Mohammed leads Pistons to second exhibition win over Wolves
Oct 19, 2006 - 2:09 AM GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (Ticker) -- The offensive execution by the Detroit Pistons knocked the Minnesota Timberwolves out early.Nazr Mohammed scored 20 points and Tayshaun Prince added 16 as the Pistons jumped ahead early, paving the way for their second preseason win over the Wolves with a 112-103 victory.
Jason Maxiell contributed 14 points and Richard Hamilton 11 for Detroit, which built a 64-48 halftime lead due to 59 percent shooting (23-of-39) from the floor. The Pistons defeated the Wolves, 101-96, on Friday.
Flip Murray and second-round pick Will Blalock out of Iowa State shared the backup point guard duties for the Pistons, combining for 19 points and 10 assists. Blalock saw a majority of the time in the fourth quarter, making nice decisions with the basketball.
Mike James and Marko Jaric netted 15 points apiece and Kevin Garnett added 14 and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes for Minnesota, which held a 46-39 rebounding edge.
Wolves first-round pick Randy Foye scored five points, but committed four turnovers in 16 minutes and second-round selection Craig Smith added five points before fouling out.
