Mobley scores 26 to lead Clippers over Lakers

Oct 20, 2006 - 5:18 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Cuttino Mobley's sustained effort gave the Los Angeles Clippers a close victory over their co-tenant at the Staples Center.

Mobley scored 26 points, Elton Brand had 20 and Corey Maggette 14 as the Clippers held on for a 91-90 victory of the Los Angeles Lakers in a preseason contest.

After winning the second game of the opening night of the annual Lakers Shootout, the Clippers will meet the Golden State Warriors on Friday, while the Lakers face the New Orleans Hornets. Golden State posted a 112-103 triumph over the Hornets in the opener.

Mobley made 7-of-15 shots from the floor and 12-of-13 free throws in 40 minutes of his most productive preseason game. He scored six consecutive points to cap a 14-2 run that closed the third quarter to give the Clippers a 74-69 lead.

Rookie Jordan Farmar, a former standout at UCLA, scored 11 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of foul shots to put the Lakers in front, 90-88, with 3:01 left.

However, the Clippers closed out their third win in four preseason games when Shaun Livingston made 1-of-2 from the foul line with 2:47 left and Daniel Ewing sank a pair of free throws 47 seconds later.

Livingston and Ewing scored 11 points apiece for the Clippers, who shot just 39 percent (28-for-72) and had a 42-36 rebounding edge.

Sam Cassell (strained right calf), Chris Kaman (strained left hamstring) and Aaron Williams (sore lower back) did not see action for the Clippers.

Andrew Bynum scored 15 points and Smush Parker added 13 for the Lakers (2-3), who played without scoring champ Kobe Bryant, who is recovering from knee surgery, and Aaron McKie, who is sidelined with back spasms.

Team officials also announced Kwame Brown will be out from three to four weeks with a sprained right shoulder.
