Szczerbiak, Celtics demolish sloppy Knicks
Oct 22, 2006 - 2:21 AM UNCASVILLE, Connecticut (Ticker) -- The Boston Celtics looked ready for the regular season. The New York Knicks looked ready for the offseason.Paul Pierce scored 18 points and Wally Szczerbiak added 17 to lead the Celtics to a lopsided 113-89 exhibition victory over the Knicks.
Boston took control in the first half, shooting nearly 56 percent (24-of-43) from the field behind 15 points from Szczerbiak to take a 61-34 advantage into intermission.
Pierce made 5-of-11 shots overall and Szczerbiak connected on 8-of-14. Second-round pick Leon Powe scored 16 points and Al Jefferson added 12 for the Celtics.
Jamal Crawford scored 15 points and Nate Robinson chipped in 13 for New York, which shot just 43 percent (30-of-69).
The Knicks also committed a whopping 31 turnovers, including five by Eddy Curry and four apiece by Crawford, Robinson and Stephon Marbury.
