Johnson's jumper lifts Hawks over Cavaliers

Oct 22, 2006 - 2:45 AM COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- Joe Johnson's 20-footer with 1.7 seconds left in overtime gave the Atlanta Hawks a 90-88 preseason victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Johnson had 17 points and 10 assists for the Hawks, who had five scorers in double figures and recovered after squandering a nine-point halftime lead.

After Johnson's basket, the Cavaliers tried to lob an inbounds pass to 7-3 Zydrunas Ilgauskas. But the pass was knocked away and time expired, dropping Cleveland to 2-4 in the preseason.

A crowd of 10,235 was on hand at Nationwide Arena to see Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, who did not disappoint with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists. He missed a runner at the end of regulation that could have won the game.

A basket by Drew Gooden, who collected 17 points and 11 rebounds, pulled Cleveland into a 79-79 tie with 27 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Atlanta's Tyronn Lue missed a 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds to go.

Lue scored 13 points and Zaza Pachulia added 12 for the Hawks, who shot 39 percent (33-of-84) from the field and held a 50-47 rebounding edge.

Ilgauskas had 12 points and 14 boards for the Cavs, who shot 38 percent (33-of-86). First-round pick Shannon Brown did not play.
