Randolph, Jack impressive as Blazers edge Jazz
Oct 24, 2006 - 5:26 AM PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- The Utah Jazz were not prepared for Zach Randolph and Jarrett Jack.Randolph scored 17 of his 22 points in the third quarter and Jack added 21 and six assists as the Portland Trail Blazers posted a 114-110 preseason triumph over the Jazz.
The inside-outside tandem of Randolph and Jack combined to make 9-of-18 shots and drain an impressive 24-of-27 free throws for Portland, which built a 13-point lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the final period, Utah cut the deficit to 108-106 on a pair of foul shots by Carlos Boozer with 24 seconds remaining. But Jack and Juan Dixon combined to sink all six of their free throws to seal the victory.
Dixon finished with 19 points and Travis Outlaw scored 16 for Portland, which shot 53 percent (34-of-64) and made 6-of-12 from 3-point range. First-round pick Brandon Roy scored eight points in 18 minutes.
Deron Williams had 24 points and seven assists while Boozer contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Jazz, who shot 47 percent (39-of-83) and held a 50-34 advantage in points in the paint.
Portland's Martell Webster missed the game due to back spasms.
