Maxiell helps Pistons rally past Wizards

Oct 25, 2006 - 1:45 AM AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) -- No Richard, no Rasheed, no Chauncey, no problem for the Detroit Pistons.

Jason Maxiell scored 21 points and Carlos Delfino added 13 and 12 rebounds as the Pistons overcame a huge first-quarter deficit to post a 101-94 preseason victory over the Washington Wizards.

Detroit rested All-Star starters Richard Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups. Antawn Jamison played just six minutes for Washington due to a sore shoulder.

Maxiell, a second-year forward battling for frontcourt minutes this season, scored all of his points after the first period. The 6-8, 260-pound bruiser was 7-of-11 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds.

Delfino had a solid all-around game, playing 45 minutes and adding six assists and four steals.

The Wizards held a 30-12 lead with just under a minute remaining in the first quarter before the Pistons stormed back with a 15-0 run. Detroit took its first lead at 34-33 when Lindsey Hunter hit a jumper from the corner with 6:30 left in the first half.

Flip Murray scored 14 points and Hunter added 10 for the Pistons, who shot 49 percent (35-of-72).

Roger Mason Jr. scored 15 of his 22 points in the first half for Washington, which shot 46 percent (37-of-80). Donell Taylor added 18 points, Caron Butler 16 and Gilbert Arenas 12.
