Bench steps up as Sixers cruise past Nets
Oct 26, 2006 - 1:52 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Among the Philadelphia 76ers' many problems last season was the lack of scoring punch off the bench. They hope Kyle Korver and Willie Green can resolve that problem.Korver scored 22 points and Green added 16 as the 76ers cruised to a 110-88 preseason victory over the New Jersey Nets.
Chris Webber scored 13 points and Allen Iverson added 12 and 12 assists for the Sixers, who were near the bottom of the league in bench points last season, when Korver was primarily a starter and Green was injured until late in the campaign.
Moved to the bench, Korver made 8-of-10 shots, including 4-of-5 3-pointers. Green, who will back up both guard spots, sank 6-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-3 from the arc.
Andre Iguodala scored 15 points and Steven Hunter added 13 and eight rebounds for the Sixers, who shot 51 percent (41-of-81) and welcomed back center Samuel Dalembert. Sidelined with a hamstring injury, Dalembert played just 12 minutes and committed four fouls but showed no ill effects of the injury.
Rookie Marcus Williams scored 19 points and Matt Walsh added 11 for the Nets, who were outscored by 26 points over the last three quarters. Battling for a roster spot, Walsh made 3-of-5 3-pointers after sinking the game-winning free throws in Tuesday's contest.
