Williams helps Jazz rally past Pistons

AUBURN HILLS, Michigan (Ticker) - Deron Williams led a third quarter rally to help lift the shorthanded Utah Jazz to a 100-85 victory over the Detroit Pistons in a preseason matchup on Friday.

An All-Star snub last season, Williams finished with 15 points - 11 of which came in the third quarter - as the Jazz rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit.

Ronnie Brewer netted 18 points and Paul Millsap had 15 and eight rebounds for Utah, which shot 41 percent (35-of-84) from the field.

Both teams struggled to score early in the game, although the starting five for each team played for the majority of the first quarter.

Utah, which was without All-Star Carlos Boozer, started 4-of-22 from the field in their second preseason game. Boozer had just returned earlier after taking time to be with his ailing son, Carmani, who is recovering from a bone-marrow transplant.

Detroit's reserves outperformed its counterparts in the second quarter, going on an 11-2 run to end the half for a 46-34 bugle at intermission.

Newcomer Jarvis Hayes scored 16 points and Rasheed Wallace chipped in 12 and three blocks for the Pistons, who shot 41 percent (32-of-77) and committed 16 turnovers.

Rookie Rodney Stuckey, one of the Pistons' first-round picks in June's draft, scored five of his 11 points in the second quarter.
