Trio leads Timberwolves to overtime win
Oct 26, 2006 - 3:33 AM MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves are out to prove that last season's losing record was an aberration.Ricky Davis scored 25 points and rookie Randy Foye added 14 as the Timberwolves posted a 109-105 victory over the Chicago Bulls in overtime.
Eddie Griffin had five points in the extra period, including a key rebound basket, as Minnesota improved its preseason record to 4-3.
The Timberwolves finished 2005-06 at 33-49 for their first losing record in nine seasons.
With Minnesota leading, 100-99, in overtime, Griffin's rebound and follow shot increased the margin to three. Griffin finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots.
The Timberwolves swatted 11 shots and shot 47 percent (34-of-73).
The Bulls trailed, 69-61, entering the fourth quarter, but rallied and took a 91-88 lead on a 3-pointer by Chris Duhon with 44 seconds remaining. However, Foye made a runner in the lane with 14 seconds left to tie the game at 92-92. Malik Allen missed a baseline jumper as time expired.
Chicago (5-2) also shot 47 percent (41-of-88) and was led by Kirk Hinrich with 21 points and Duhon with 15 and five assists. Duhon scored seven of his points in overtime for the Bulls, who also received 12 points from rookie Tyrus Thomas.
Minnesota travels to Milwaukee on Friday for its final exhibition game. Chicago finishes the preseason Friday at home vs. Toronto.
