Aldridge, Roy lead Blazers past Sonics

PORTLAND, Oregon (Ticker) -- With the loss of the NBA's No. 1 draft pick Greg Oden to season-ending knee surgery, and the loss of the No. 2 pick Kevin Durant to a ankle sprain, Wednesday night's preseason game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Seattle Supersonics lacked a little of it's luster. But the show had to go on.

Brandon Roy poured in 16 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and LaMarcus Aldridge scored 31 points and to lead the Blazers to a 109-107 victory over the Sonics.

Portland, which trailed 81-75 entering the final period, exchanged buckets with Seattle for the first six minutes of the fourth before Delonte West's lay-up at the 6:40 mark that pushed the visitor's lead to 94-84.

Roy, who had only three points in the first half and was playing in just his second game of the preseason after being hampered by a heel injury, responded by keeping the Blazers a float, scoring his team's next 10 straight points. His two free throws with 3:13 to play cut the deficit 99-94.

Roy's layup with 16 seconds remaining gave Portland the lead for good.

As he's done for much of the preseason, LaMarcus Aldridge was once again the catalyst for the Blazers in the first quarter. The second overall pick in the 2006 NBA draft scored 13 points by hitting on all five shot attempts and all three of his free throw attempts as Portland jumped out to a 23-10 advantage.

Nick Collison scored 17 points and West finished with 16 to lead Seattle, which scored 36 points in the second quarter.
