Spurs aim for fastest start since 2000-01
Nov 2, 2007 - 1:46 PM Sacramento (0-1) at San Antonio (2-0) 8:30 pm EDTSAN ANTONIO (Ticker) - The San Antonio Spurs seek their first 3-0 start since 2000-01 on Friday when they host the Sacramento Kings.
San Antonio, which ended its title run last summer by winning six consecutive games, has opened this campaign with a home win over Portland and road triumph at Memphis. In 2000-01, the Spurs used a quick start to a league-best 58-24 record.
The Spurs, as usual, appear to be hitting on all cylinders as Tim Duncan has totaled 41 points and 22 boards through two contests while sixth man Manu Ginobili leads the team with 23.5 points per game, including posting 30 points in Wednesday's 104-101 victory at Memphis.
On the other hand, the Kings are coming off a 104-90 loss in their opener at New Orleans on Wednesday as they played without guard Mike Bibby (thumb), forward Ron Artest (suspension) and first-round pick, center Spencer Hawes (knee).
Bibby is out at least eight weeks with a thumb injury, Artest has been suspended for seven games after pleading no contest to a domestic violence charge and Hawes is out indefinitely after suffering a preseason knee injury.
Against the Hornets, Kevin Martin led the way with 26 points. John Salmons added 22 points and nine assists.
