Jefferson outshines Francis as Nets defeat Knicks
Oct 28, 2006 - 2:35 AM EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The New Jersey Nets were in midseason form in their preseason finale.Richard Jefferson scored 23 of his 32 points before halftime to lead five players in double figures as the Nets posted a 138-121 victory over the New York Knicks, who wasted a huge performance by Steve Francis.
Rookie Marcus Williams had 21 points and nine assists off the bench and Vince Carter added 21 points for New Jersey, which shot 51 percent (46-of-90) from the field and drained 10-of-21 3-pointers.
Francis finished with 39 points, including 24 in the first half, and Stephon Marbury chipped in 24 for the Knicks, who shot 50 percent (43-of-85). Francis sank all 12 of his free throws.
In the fourth quarter, Francis and Mikki Moore were involved in an altercation with 16 seconds remaining after the former All-Star pushed Moore following hard contact on a driving layup in which no foul was called on. Both were ejected.
Earlier Friday, New Jersey picked up the contract options on center Nenad Krstic, who scored 20 points, and swingman Antoine Wright.
New Jersey opens the regular season at home against Toronto on Wednesday, while New York visits Memphis.
