Clippers' Kaman looks to continue strong start vs. Cavaliers

Nov 11, 2007 - 2:09 PM Cleveland (3-3) at La Clippers (4-1) 9:30 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Clippers absorbed a huge blow when Elton Brand suffered a torn Achilles' tendon in the offseason. But thanks to the surprising play of Chris Kaman, they have yet to miss Brand.

Kaman will look to continue his impressive start to the season on Sunday when the Clippers host LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Brand, who led the team in scoring in each of the past three seasons, will miss six months after tearing his Achilles' during a workout in August.

Despite not having the two-time All-Star, Los Angeles got off to its best start (4-0) since 19585-86 behind the strong play of Kaman. The fourth-year center scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but the Clippers suffered a 103-79 setback at the hands of the Detroit Pistons on Friday.

Kaman, who signed a five-year, $52 million contract extension last October, is averaging career highs of 18.4 points and 14.6 rebounds. Prior to this season his best effort came in 2005-06 when he averaged 12.0 points and 9.6 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Cleveland is looking for its second straight win after posting a 93-91 win over Sacramento on Friday. James scored 26 points, including eight points in the final three minutes to help seal the win.

James averaged just 19.5 points in two meetings last season, but the Cavaliers won both games.
